The days since we returned from the South have been slow in a good way. I have a lot to digest mentally on the threshold of leaving 2014 behind - our craziest year ever, and some quiet time has been highly needed. Also the way we were met with open arms in North Carolina by family only Kristian has met briefly many years ago, has made me feel a lot more at home here in the US. I don't feel as far away from everything anymore.
Kristian and I also both feel old after our long drive. Our backs have complained a lot after 4 days spent in the car within a single week. I have only tried having a stiff back once before years ago, but have had no problems whatsoever since I started going to the gym regularly. That regularity has been lost since we moved here - especially with all the December Green Card craziness, and now my body takes its revenge. After an evening where the "poor" kids had to clean everything out after dinner, while their Mom sat all stiff on a hard chair, I have decided that a New Years resolution for 2015 is to get back to a fitness routine twice weekly no matter how busy I am otherwise. Kristian, Teresa and I made it to the tiny gym room yesterday, and it felt really good.
En anden aktivitet, der har været på min to do liste længe, har været at begynde at brodere, men jeg har aldrig rigtigt fået taget mig sammen. Men så fik jeg denne her bog i efteråret:
Another activity that has been taking up my bucket list is embroidery, but I just never quite got to it. But then I got this book in the fall:
And for Christmas Kristian emptied JoAnns for embroidery floss, needles etc. And I actually managed to make this wicked book mark:
Teresa has also become hooked. Kristian got me a small practice kit, but I just don't feel like wasting time on cute puppies with nauseating statements. Yikes!:
She just wanted to try for little bit, but then I started teasing her, that she would probably never be done (she does not have lot of patience........) and the entire discussion ended up with me promising that I would frame it and put it on the wall, should she manage to actually finish it. Oh boy, showing new levels of stubborn strong will'ness she got going. Now we joke that she should start embroidering her homework as this is way more readable than the writing she produces otherwise.
Kristian also has a new hobby: home brewing. As of right now we have oat stout, kombucha, hard cider, and homemade gingerale made with champagne yeast sitting all over the appartment. He has been very inspired by Kurt (Teresas friends dad) who also brews and ferments everything he can get his hands on, and for Christmas I gave him a cool book with a lot of different techniques and recipes.
Finally we also had such a nice New Years eve celebration, where we were invited for a family friendly pot luck party at Kurt and Megans (the same place where we had Thanksgiving Dinner). We made a giant stack of "frikadeller" and bitesized "kiksekage: http://klidmoster.dk/2014/12/bite-size-kiksekage-med-kondenseret-mlk.html. It was such a great evening with a little hippie feeling to it in a cool way. It might as well have taken place in Berkeley with homefermented sauerkraut and kids that were allowed to roam without interfering adults and electronics (I do however believe that they had NOT been allowed to roam the icecold dark forest with flashlights all by themselves, had we been in California, but they all made it home in one piece and with VERY red cheeks ;-)
