College on my mind

When we moved here 3 1/2 years ago we did not know if we going to actually stay (we hoped we would, and we barely made it.....). Back then, several asked the question: “what are you going to do with your kids’ education?”. And our answer was: “we don’t know, but we will figure it out once we get there”. And now we arehere!!!!!! With no college savings whatsoever and half a year away from having the first kid leave.
And I am stressed out. And I worry about the finances, and yet I know deep inside that this will be alright too. Ulrik has made his choice. He wants to go the art&design school and get a bachelor of fine arts in studio work (ceramics). We thought he was going to choose engineering or some kind of IT. But he LOVES ceramics and he has the talent to make a career of it. And last but not least - he is excited about his future! And to me that is the most important thing. There are so many considerations to make regarding career opportunities, future salary, employment rates etc etc. But being excited should not be on the list of “maybes” . To me it is a prerequisite and I am proud of Ulrik (who by the way has been accepted into every single university he applied to - including Umich).
Right now we have received acceptance letters from all schools and we are waiting for the financial offer letters. It seems that the choice boils down to umich versus MSU (University of Michigan here in Ann Arbor or Michigan State University in Lansing. Needless to say, they are of course arch enemies. LOL). Ulrik really likes both places and have visited both. He has not met with the ceramics director at umich yet, but he is setting that up and hopefully that will be the last thing he needs to make a choice.
